Title: Not That Kind of Girl
Author: Siobhan Vivian
Publisher: Push
Publication Date: September 1, 2010
Pages: 336

Natalie Sterling wants to be in control. She wants her friends to be loyal. She wants her classmates to elect her student council president. She wants to find the right guy, not the usual jerk her school has to offer. She wants a good reputation, because she believes that will lead to good things.

But life is messy, and it's very hard to be in control of it. Not when there are freshman girls running around in a pack, trying to get senior guys to sleep with them. Not when your friends have secrets they're no longer comfortable sharing. Not when the boy you once dismissed ends up being the boy you wants to sleep with yourself - but only in secret, with nobody ever finding out.
Slut or saint? Winner or loser? Natalie is getting tired of these forced choices - and is now going to find a way to live life in the sometimes messy, sometimes wonderful in-between.
Review:
What kind of girl are you?  Natalie has lots of things on her plate right now.  She was just elected Student Council President.  The girl she used to babysit is acting a bit inappropriate for a fourteen year old.  This boy- who is best friends with Mike, Natalie's enemy- might or might not be into her.  But first, she needs to figure out kind of girl she is.
She doesn't want to be the kind of girl like her best friend, who made a very bad choice in her freshman years that has haunted her for a very long time.  She doesn't want to be the kind of girl like Spencer, who seems to try to find situations to show off every part of her every chance she gets.  Natalie needs to discover that anyone could be that kind of girl or they couldn't.  Everyone has a choice.
What drew me in?  The cover- while I'll admit- this book, according to its plot, seems like it is going to be an epic fail with flat characters and a boring plot.  This book surprised me in many ways.  I knew I was going to read it anyway, because of the cover.  I know a lot of readers do that- don't deny it!  Judging books by covers...  From looking at the gorgeous cover I can tell two things without even reading the storyline:
  1. This is obviously going to be a chick lit novel, something that I haven't read in a while.  The cover practically screams, "Read me!"
  2. There is probably going to be a lot of kissing involved.
I was right on both accounts.  And, let me just say, this was a great book.  It was the kind of book that made me feel like a school girl.  I smiled, giggled, and shivered at different scenes during the novel- sometimes I did all three at once!  A typical fairy tale story that every reader knows must end in a happy ending.  It was surely a cute story that captured my attention with the cover and held my attention with a great story, adorable characters, and fast-paced scenes that kept me wanting more.
