6 Bookish Goals for the New Year (2023)

Tuesday, January 17, 2023

Happy New Year! We are in a few weeks into the new year now and I am excited to say that my reading has been going well, and I hope it continues too! Every year I try to set a few bookish goals for me to accomplish. Besides the ever-looming goal of buy less books than the year before, I completed every other bookish goal I had set out to accomplish in 2022! I hope to accomplish all of the following goals this year too.

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created and hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is: Top Ten Bookish Goals for 2023:

Read at least 50 books

This goal remains the one consistent achievement I make every year. While it used to be a challenge, I usually can make it to 50 books by July now. I completed 2022 out with 201 total books read. I definitely think that number will not be that high again. As long as I read some amazing books, the number doesn't really matter. However, I’m hoping to reach 50 books by the end of 2023.

Buy less books

I have been making this a set goal for a while and without a doubt, I usually acquire more books every single year. I am hoping that will not be the case this year. My plan is to buy books with intention--knowing that I will get to them within 3 months. I have so many unread books on my shelves that, this year, I want to make those books my priority instead of bringing in more to add to the collection.

Read more books from my local library

In my plan to buy less books, I hope to read more books from my local library. Instead of purchasing books before reading them, the library is a great resource to use to read the book and see if I like it before I buy it. While I use the Libby app, giving me access to the library's ebooks and audiobooks, I hope to visit the library more often to find books I may not know about otherwise.

Read at least 6 Epic Reads of a Lifetime

My brother got me this lovely scratch-off poster of 100 Epic Reads of a Lifetime for Christmas in 2019. I’ve been working on it ever since, choosing my tbr so I get to scratch off at least one per month. I still have a bunch of books to read from the poster. To keep myself accountable, I want to try to read at least 6 of the books. Here’s the 6 I hope to read this year:

Moby Dick by Herman Melville | David Copperfield by Charles Dickens | The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath | Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy | The Color Purple by Alice Walker

Finish at least 6 book series

I always have such trouble finished all the series I start, because if I am liking the world, I never want it to end. Last year, I tried for the first time to track the book series I am in the middle of and discovered that I am currently in 32 book series (which includes both completed and ongoing series). I would love to finish some of those series! Here's the series I am hoping to get to in 2023:

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco | Shades of London by Maureen Johnson | Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin

Gilded by Marissa Meyer | The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepherd | Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
