10 Books I Was Excited to Get But Still Haven't Read
Tuesday, May 17, 2022As readers, we all know the sheer excitement of acquiring that book that we’ve been trying to snag a copy of for forever it seems. And when we finally get that book in our possession, we place it on our shelf as a prized possession, where it sits unread for many months or sometimes, many years. I have several books that I own that I was so excited to get, but still haven’t read yet.
Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare: I’ve had this on my shelf since it released in 2016. For a time, I was trying to catch up in the Shadowhunter world to finally be able to read this series. Yet, currently, it feels so hopeless since Clare publishes another book in the Shadowhunter world every few years and I am so behind. Hopefully, one day I will catch up and read them all.
Roar by Cora Carmack: I adored Carmack’s new adult series, Losing It, and couldn’t wait to get a copy of the first book in her Stormheart series. This one has been on my shelves since 2018. Maybe this year will finally be the time I read this one.
The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig: Every time that I remember I own this book, I get so excited! I mean, it’s about time travel and pirates—two of my favorite bookish things! I don’t know why I haven’t read this yet.
A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin: I bought this back in 2015 with the intent that I was going to read all the books before watching the show. Maybe, someday.
Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld: I was so excited to pick up a copy of Afterworlds when it first released in 2014. The premise sounded amazing, following both Darcy as she publishes her first novel and Darcy’s novel. The 600-page count is what has made me hesitant in picking it up.
Torn by Amanda Hocking: I feel like Hocking used to be so popular. Her books were everywhere I turned in almost every bookstore I frequent. I was initially intrigued by watching the book trailer for Switched back in 2012 (I rarely watch book trailers nowadays). During lockdown, I devoured Switched but still have the rest of the series to get to which I received in that same year.
His Hideous Heart edited by Dahlia Adler: I rarely read anthologies, but I needed to pick this one up when I heard about it. This short story collection is filled with Edgar Allen Poe reimaginings. This one has been on my shelf since 2019; so, it hasn’t been too long. I admit that my excitement to dive in has been replaced by Adler’s newest anthology of Shakespeare reimaginings.
Save the Date by Morgan Matson: I have enjoyed Matson’s contemporaries before and decided to pick this one up when it released. My friend had devoured it in one sitting and warned me that the book focuses on a wedding where everything that could go wrong does. At the time, I was a bridesmaid for my friend’s wedding and instead of stressing me out further on all the things that could wrong, I decided to hold off on reading this one. I still haven’t gotten to this one yet. However, with wedding season upon us and I am not in any wedding parties this year, I may have to try this one out.
The Holiday Switch by Tif Marcelo: I went to the bookstore last November and picked up some holiday-related reads. I rarely read themed books that take place around a certain holiday but this one and few others looked so cute that I had to pick it up. The problem with holiday-related books is that I am only excited to read them during that specific holiday. So, I’m waiting until next December to pick this one up again.
The Becoming of Noah Shaw by Michelle Hodkin: I was so excited to find out that Hodkin was writing a spin-off series of the Mara Dyer books and it was going to follow mysterious Noah Shaw. When the book came out in 2017, I immediately picked it up with the intention of reading it soon. Soon hasn’t come yet.

OOh nice! I loooved Roar, but that series has been on a roller-coaster when it comes to release dates. Every book has been delayed. I know the author has health issues and I am in no way blaming her, but from a reader's standpoint the constant waiting is agonizing! I would probably recommend waiting until the final book comes out! Lol.
ReplyDeleteThe Becoming of Noah Shaw was another series I was enjoying but it seems it may remain unfinished. I don't think many readers liked it as much as Mara Dyer. I haven't really heard why there is still no third book. Much to my dismay.
