10 Books You Need to Listen To

Tuesday, March 26, 2019

I only just fell in love with audiobooks last year so the amount I've listened to is minuscule compared to some. Audiobooks are a game changer to my reading habits. I can multitask while a book is playing the background. Those huge books on my shelves seem less daunting when paired with an audiobook. It's amazing!

However, there are times where I still can't get into the story. There are just too many characters or the narrator's voice is too rough for my liking. These little things can really tilt the whole reading experience off kilter. This is not the case with the following books. These audiobooks are definitely worth a listening to. Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is: Top 10 Books You Need to Listen To:

Angel by James Patterson: As much as the Maximum Ride books became a bit tedious to get through in the end, the audiobooks put special sound effects which creates a movie playing inside your head. It's awesome!

The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater: The voices that narrate this definitely grew on me. And I ended up loving the series!

Welcome to Night Vale by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor: Originally a podcast, it's only natural to read Welcome the Night Vale via audio. It plays as a special episode of their podcast, with a full cast and tons of fun!

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes: I physically read Me Before You but devoured After You and Still Me via audio and it's so worth it. The protagonist is so relatable and lovelable. And the narrator's British accent helps immerse you in the world.

Hollow City by Ransom Riggs: I read Miss Peregrine's so long ago and wanted to pick up Hollow City so I opted for the audiobook and am so glad I did. The voice actor did such a superb job and truly makes the characters' dialogue come to life.

Sadie by Courtney Summers: There's a podcast element in the book that makes it perfect to read via audio.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling: Before audiobooks had hit it big in the publishing world, Jim Dale expertly narrated the Harry Potter series. It may only be one voice but he immerses you into the story so well!

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan: There's a lot to unpack in this because it's essentially just layers upon layers of drama. And without the audiobook, I think the physical book would have taken me ages. With listening to it, it took me one day and I ended up loving it so much!

When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon: There's two voice actors that narrate the book, one voice for Dimple and the other for Rishi. Having the two voices helped distinguish which chapter we were in (the book alternates perspectives between chapters). Undeniably cute!

The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee: I've heard amazing things about the first audiobook, The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue. They say the narrator has a voice like butter. However, I read the first physically and decided to pick the audiobook up for the second. The narrator may not have a butter-melting voice but I loved it all the same.

What are some of your favorite audiobooks?

  1. Great list! I think it's interesting that they chose to use different narrators for When Dimple Met Rishi, though it sounds like it was a great choice. You've definitely got me curious about the audiobook for The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue. I'm all for butter-melting voices. xD

  4. Ooh nice picks! I've never been much of an audiobook person, so I had to find my own topic for this week. Which was still pretty fun! LOL!

  6. I listened to most of the Raven Boys series on audiobook. They were pretty good! I would switch between listening and reading and it made for a pretty enjoyable read.
