10 Books I Meant to Read in 2018 But Didn't

Tuesday, January 22, 2019

I may have read 120 books last year but these books weren't any of those, unfortunately. I had these books on numerous monthly TBRs. They had tons of chances to get picked up. Yet, I decided to push them back until all of a sudden, it's a new year.

I did have the best intentions of finishing all of these in 2018. It just didn't work out. So, hopefully, when I look back on this post a year from now, I can say that I finished every single one of these. Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is: Top 10 Books I Meant to Read in 2018 But Didn't:

Even though Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi is still sitting on my shelf, I'm still so hyped to read it. Every review I've read has raved about the romance told mostly through texts which sounds so unique, I need to read it soon. I meant to read Unclaimed Baggage by Jen Doll during the last half of summer and it just didn't happen- which means I may wait until a much warmer season than the middle of winter to complete the book. I was able to get an ARC of the much-coveted release, Bridge of Clay by Markus Zusak, at BookExpo. I absolutely loved The Book Thief. However, his Wolfe Brothers series just wasn't for me. My dislike for Zusak's Wolfe Brothers series, a contemporary series, made me extremely hesitant to start this new contemporary book of his. I am still hesitant, but maybe the audiobook will be less daunting.

The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee was one of my favorites of 2017. So, when I heard about the sequel, The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy, I was so excited for its release! Yet, the reviews are extremely mixed. I just received the book on audio from my library, so we shall see soon what those reviews are all about. I read a few chapters of The Witch Hunter by Virginia Boecker and was really enjoying it. I just went on to another book and never finished the other I started. Now, here's a shocker: I didn't read one Cassandra Clare book in all of 2018. I finished TID and TMI in 2017 and just haven't picked up all her other books. Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy is up next. Here's to hoping they all get done this year.

The Fandom by Anna Day sounds like something I will adore and I don't even have a reason why I haven't read it yet. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor may be the most hyped book of 2018. And I am not one to read super hyped books right away so I've been waiting. I've been meaning to get to Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo ever since I finished the Six of Crows duology. Considering it has a Netflix show in the works, I have to read the trilogy this year.

Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody has the coolest premise ever which could either be a hit or miss for me. It is fantasy which I adore but also has casino elements which I'm not really sure if I love. We shall see.

Have you read any of these? Which books did you want to get to in 2018 but didn't?

  2. Nice ones! A lot of new to me ones. I liked Ace of Shades but it wasn't a solid win for me sadly. I did enjoy Shadow and Bone and Witch Hunter! Hope you get to read and enjoy all of these this year!

  4. Really great picks! I really hope you love (or at the very least, merely enjoy) them. Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy was brilliantly fun.
