9 Books Set in School that I Haven't Read Yet

Tuesday, August 28, 2018

It's back to school season. In between packing those backpacks and making quick lunches, I'm transitioning from fun-in-the-sun summer books to books set in school. My reading tastes vary during season, being a mood reader- my reading varies a whole lot. However, during the last stretch of August, I always seem to get in the mood of reading books set in school.

There's quite a few books on my TBR at the moment that are set in school. And, hopefully, I can gobble all of these up pretty soon! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is: Back to School Freebie | 9 Books Set in School that I Haven't Read Yet:

To Be Honest by Maggie Ann Martin: Savannah is a high school senior just trying to survive the year, while her mom is on her back about her weight constantly. There's a boy, George, who seems to understand her. This one sounds filled with in-depth characters with a cute romance. I can't wait to read it!

Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi: I can't believe I haven't read this one. This one is set in college, when the two main characters paths meet. It's a romance you've never seen before!

Chemistry Lessons by Meredith Goldstein: This one may be set in summer but Maya is getting ready to attend college in the fall. She has all the plans set including her perfect boyfriend. Those plans, of course, are shattered when he dumps her. Maya uses her science skills to create the ultimate potion to get her boyfriend to fall in love her again.

The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson: It's been years since I read a Johnson book. You know, I used to be able to say that I read all her books but now I'm so behind in that. The main character is off to boarding school just when an imitator of Jack the Ripper is terrorizing the area. And she believes herself to be the next victim!

When Elephants Fly by Nancy Richardson Fischer: Schizophrenia runs in Lily's family so she's always been cautious about her life. However, this high school senior risks everything to save a baby elephant.

American Panda by Gloria Chao: College freshman, Mei, is on her parents' career track. Yet, things become abundantly clear that this isn't the path for her. When she develops a crush on one of her peers, it's time to fess up to her parents that their path may not be the best for her.

Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum: It's junior year at Jessie's new prep school and she's about to move back to where she came from to escape. Just in time, she receives a mysterious email from a person who claims to be able to help her navigate through the nightmarish school.

Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli: I know most of you have already read this. I saw the movie a few months ago and cried my eyes out so why not read the book, right?

That's Not What Happened by Kody Keplinger: Set during the aftermath of a school shooting, the main character is finally ready to talk about what really happened during the murder of her best friend.

Happy Back-to-School Days! What books set in school are you hoping to get to soon?

  1. I've only read two of these!
Simon is so lovely, and Name of the Star is EXCELLENT. I would definitely recommend both, but Name of the Star is perfect for September/October reading.
