Divergent Book Discussion (33)

Thursday, May 16, 2013

Hey, people from Earth and other people who are not from here, for the next 3 weeks we will be giving you the awesomeness that is DIVERGENT by Veronica Roth.  Be sure to show up, because we are giving away some goodies, check it out HERE. Just a side note, I will be asking a question after each discussion post.  Be sure to follow the discussion and don’t be scared to join in on our discussion/ questions. Those who entered the contest will receive extra entries for answering a question.  Every week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, we will discuss three chapters per week: tell you about the plot, and other random bits of spicy goodness that you should definitely know about (all relating to Divergent).    Just for your curiosity: helping me out with this discussion is Jackie, one of my best friends (please say hello to her).  Basically these posts will be categorized by person.  Jackie hasn't read the book so be sure to read her first impressions while she reads along and if you have read Divergent, be sure to read my input (this will be the my second read through).  If you missed a post and want to check out the schedule, go HERE.  Come and join us in our quest of discussing DIVERGENT.

Today's Topics:
Robotic People and Divergent

Just saying, at this point I haven’t started the chapter, but I figure that this is where the mind control thing-a-ma-bobbers come into play.
After I read the chapter: This goes to show that when you try to act like a robot when you aren’t, that IT’S NOT A GOOD IDEA. BAD IDEA MITSKINI. Luckily for Tobias, Tris was there to protect him. So this is random, but this reminded me of the Cybermen in Doctor Who. Since you know, they had their brains removed and only have their robotic selves left, so all of their humanity is gone. Also, for both the Cybermen and Daunltess intiates being mind controlled, the way they are unified in movement kind of creeps me out. Also, will they even remember killing all those members of Abnegation? What will they do if those memories come flooding back? I mean, I know they have to be brave as Dauntless and all, but is killing others something (that they could not control) they can live with?
They are so screwed.
How will they get out of this alive?!!!
Actually, will they get out of this?! Well considering there is like 6 chapters left they better both live….anyway, WILL THEY MAKE IT?!

If you had to kill someone, and had no control over it (and didn’t know what you were doing at the time), would you be able to live with yourself if you remembered what you did?
