Divergent Book Discussion (28)

Monday, May 06, 2013

Hey, people from Earth and other people who are not from here, for the next 3 weeks we will be giving you the awesomeness that is DIVERGENT by Veronica Roth.  Be sure to show up, because we are giving away some goodies, check it out HERE. Just a side note, I will be asking a question after each discussion post.  Be sure to follow the discussion and don’t be scared to join in on our discussion/ questions. Those who entered the contest will receive extra entries for answering a question.  Every week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, we will discuss three chapters per week: tell you about the plot, and other random bits of spicy goodness that you should definitely know about (all relating to Divergent).    Just for your curiosity: helping me out with this discussion is Jackie, one of my best friends (please say hello to her).  Basically these posts will be categorized by person.  Jackie hasn't read the book so be sure to read her first impressions while she reads along and if you have read Divergent, be sure to read my input (this will be the my second read through).  If you missed a post and want to check out the schedule, go HERE.  Come and join us in our quest of discussing DIVERGENT.

CHAPTER 28
Today's Topic:
Caleb and Secrets of the Faction's War on Abnegation

I feel bad for Tris since Caleb can’t go against the “rules” that the Erudite have set up, so he won’t even hug her because of them. But, at the same rate, he seems to be being smart about what he is doing, and trying to not bet Tris is trouble, which must be a good sign, right? I just hope that Caleb researches the simulation serum and finds some answers. I kind of hoped that he would have shown Tris some form of affection, but I get the whole, “faction before blood” thing. I guess it is for the best! I also wish he could see how much he was being manipulated by the Erudite leaders by conforming to the rules about “faction before blood” or whatever. Poo on you Caleb! L

WOW. Did not see the war plan coming, but I guess I should have guessed that based on the nature of this book so far. But, they are using the initiates for the war? WHAT? Welp they all dead. I know that they would not be able to convince Tris or Tobias to join them, I think both of them would run away, try to stop the war, or kill themselves before they willingly joined the war. Also, considering that they are both Divergent, I think that they would have a better chance of being able to discern reality from any simulation they thought they were in.

Caleb sucks.  The end.

What would it take for you to disobey the rules that your faction had set up?
