Waiting on Wednesday (Juliet Immortal)

Wednesday, March 23, 2011

Hey everyone! It's Wednesday, the day we bloggers highlight something we're waiting to be released or just plain desperate to read. The WoW meme is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. This week, I'm waiting for eternal love...

Juliet Immortal
Author: Stacey Jay
Pages: 320
Publisher: Delacorte Books for Young Readers
Publication Date: September 13, 2011
via Goodreads:

"These violent delights have violent ends
And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,
Which as they kiss consume."
—Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

The most tragic love story in history . . .

Juliet Capulet didn't take her own life. She was murdered by the person she trusted most, her new husband, Romeo Montague, a sacrifice made to ensure his own immortality. But what Romeo didn't anticipate was that Juliet would be granted eternity, as well, and would become an agent for the Ambassadors of Light. For 700 years, she's fought Romeo for the souls of true lovers, struggling to preserve romantic love and the lives of the innocent. Until the day she meets someone she's forbidden to love, and Romeo, oh Romeo, will do everything in his power to destroy that love.

The story of Romeo and Juliet is one that has haunted countless readers for centuries. I thoroughly admire Stacey Jay's revision of this classic romance. Many fairy tales and classics are being rewritten, adding zombies, vampires, and other preternatural elements, but Jay has taken Shakespeare's work in a new direction. To find out that, not only do they live, but that Juliet spends 700 years pining for a love she can never have, only to find love in an unexpected place, and then that "Romeo, oh Romeo, will do everything in his power to destroy that love." I. Want. It.

Also, I found this hilarious video a while ago and am thrilled that I finally get to use it somewhere:

*WARNING: he says a naughty word at the end, so don't watch with your mother next to you or she'll probably give you the same look that my mom just gave me, haha!*

Oh, it makes me laugh!

What are you waiting on this Wednesday?
