Movie Monday (The Hunger Games Cast)

As many of who have already heard, Katniss has been cast!  I was very excited when I heard the news last Friday and immediately began googling her name:

Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer Lawrence was born in Louisville, Kentucky. She has 2 older brothers, Ben and Blaine, sister-in-law Meredith, and her parents are Gary and Karen Lawrence.

Jennifer, known to her friends and family as "Jen", was discovered in New York City at the age of 14. Before Jennifer became an actor, she was involved in cheerleading, field hockey, softball, and modeling, none of which she held a passion for.

In the spring of 2004, she traveled to New York City and set up a few auditions with talent and modeling agencies. After conducting her first cold read, the agents told her mother that "it was the best cold read by a 14- year-old they had ever heard", and tried to convince her mother that she needed to spend the summer in Manhattan. After leaving the agency, Jen was spotted by an agent in the midst of shooting an H&M ad and asked to take her picture. The next day, that agent followed up with her and invited her to the studio for a cold read audition. Again, the agents were highly impressed and strongly urged her mother to allow her to spend the summer in New York City.

As fate would have it, she did spend that summer in New York City and appeared in commercials such as MTV's "My Super Sweet 16" and played a role in the movie, Devil You Know (2009). Shortly thereafter, her career forced her and her family to move to Los Angeles where she was cast in the TBS sitcom "The Bill Engvall Show" (2007) and movies such as The Poker House (2008) and The Burning Plain (2008).

Perhaps her most well-known work to date is her role as "Ree Dolly" in Debra Granik's Winter's Bone (2010). Released in early 2010, the film won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and earned Lawrence several awards such as Best Newcoming Actress at October's Hollywood Awards.

At age 20, Lawrence has several movies set to release in 2011 such as the Jodie Foster-directed film, The Beaver (2011), where she co-stars with Foster, Mel Gibson and Anton Yelchin. She will also be see in X-Men: First Class (2011) and House at the End of the Street (2012). --IMDb
Can she do it?  We think she can; it truly depends on the rest of the cast to back her up.  Based on Google Images,  I certainly did not see Jennifer Lawrence as my Katniss, but everyone is different.  Her age doesn't really matter, so much as can she pull of being Katniss?  I think Lawrence being so older than Katniss in the book may appeal to more adults and bring them to the fandom as well.  You can go HERE to hear about the director, Gary Ross, talk about her age.

Before I get into my picks for Gale and Peeta, sadly they have not been cast yet, according to IMDb, Prim and Rue has been cast, supposedly.  I am yet to hear anyone make it official so this may just be a rumor.  But according to IMDb, Prim will be played by Jackie Evancho (pictured left).  A lot of you may know her as the wonderfully talented, young girl on America's Got Talent (that girl can sing!).  Rue will be played by Saoirse Scott (above right).  They are both young, but if they are going to be Prim and Rue, I think they could do it.  Evancho can definitely pull off Prim, I can totally see her as the little sister who wants to be a healer.  I have nothing against Rue either and she is definitely small enough to climb up trees.

Now Peeta and Gale are not cast yet and so this gives me the chance to pick my own.

Peeta has always been the nice guy, the one who is, in every cliche, put in the background.  He's there, he's nice, gorgeous, and you just need to give him the chance.  I've seen many dream casts, ranging from Alex Pettyfer to Josh Hutcherson (they may be rumors rather than dream casts, so I will keep my ears open for news).  My pick for Peeta would have to be Chord Overstreet.  He is so gorgeous, blonde, and I can see him working in a bakery (so that has to be a plus).  Overstreet would fit very nicely with Lawrence, appearance-wise, and, for me, he'd totally make the perfect Peeta.  So what's your pick for Peeta?

Gale is a bit harder to cast in my head.  He has to have that rugged look and still look older than Lawrence, because in the book he is about two years older, I believe.  Gale is the hunter, the rebel, and the bad boy.  He has to look good with Lawrence, but still look good and not stand out so much from the rest of the cast.  (Oh, yes, I've thought this through.)  So my pick for Gale would be the gorgeous Ben Barnes. Doesn't he just make your mouth water? Having just finished a role in The Chronicles of Narnia: the Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Barnes is all muscled up for his rebellious archer role as Gale. Wouldn't you agree? Plus, he looks quite fine with the rugged appearance I always imagined Gale would have. Those eyes are simply soulful. Who would you pick for the role of Gale?

Who would you cast in the remaining roles for The Hunger Games?

  1. Both Prim & Rue are far too young - I thought they were meant to be about 12 in the book?

  2. Jackie denied the rumor on her twitter. She will be busy promoting her new album which comes out in june but yes she would be fantastic in that movie. She did a recent guest appearance on Wizards of Waverly place.

  3. I think Avan Jogia would actually make an AMAZING Gale!!! Look him up hes perfect and for me for Peeta its a tie between Alex Pettifyer and Chord Overstreet!!! But seriously Avan Jogia for gale

  5. Chord Overstreet would make a good Peeta, except he needs to loose the 'glee' image a bit.
As for Gale, Avan Jogia is more how I pictured him, rather than Ben Barnes.

  6. personally i don't think that jeniffer would make a good katniss, She is far to old and doesn't even look like her. i think that it was a very bad pick for the movie.

  7. i think rue should have longer hair. I believe it would suit her character more plus there is the part in the book about katniss putting the flowers in her hair so it would be better with someone with longer hair

  8. look up emma stone she would be the ABSOLUTE perfect fit for foxface she looks exactly like her....i really really hope she gets cast in the movie.... you guys have to look her up
