Beastly
Rating: PG-13
Director: Daniel Barnz
Main Actors: Alex Pettyfer, Vanessa Hudgens, Mary-Kate Olsen
I Rate This Movie: 4
A modern-day take on the "Beauty and the Beast" tale where a New York teen is transformed into a hideous monster in order to find true love. --IMDb
I went to see this movie, because:
  • Alex Pettyfer (or as Nora likes to refer to him as Alexander Pettypants) is adorably sexy and I knew he'd be fantastic for this role.
  • I love story-retellings and I loved Beastly by Alex Flinn.
  • Who doesn't love a little chick flick once in a while?
The actors I adored were Alex Pettyfer and Neil Patrick Harris.  Harris was perfect for his role.  Not only did he play the part as a blind guy very well, but added humor in almost every line.  And Pettyfer was gorgeous and acting-wise, he portrayed Kyle much better than he portrayed Four in I Am Number Four.

Parts of the movie, I really loved:
  • Make-up: Kendra, the evil witch, played by Olsen- her eyeshadow made her eyes very intense, and the tattoos on Kyle, played by Pettyfer, were amazingly done.  (A little fact: Kyle's eye brows spell the words, "Embrace Suck," which is said by Kendra earlier in the film.)
  • The tree tattoo on Kyle's arm was a great way to incorperate the book cover into the movie.
  • Wardrobe: Olsen's wardrobe was magnificent- Suttirat Anne Larlarb, costume designer- I applaud you.
Book vs. Movie:
  • Lindy's "kidnapping"
  • Kyle's beastly appearance
  • Chatroom talks with Kyle, I barely saw any IM in the movie
Parts of the movie, I disliked:
  • Obviously, it wasn't an action film, but I could have lived without all the silent, dead space.
  • Kyle's creepy stalking abilities, that was kind of a turn-off for me.
  • Mary-Kate Olsen's acting, all of her acting was done within the confines of the intense look in her eyes, but not in her lines (which were delayed and poorly executed).
I reccommend this movie to Beauty and the Beast fans and people who enjoyed the book.

  1. I liked this movie...sorta. There were some things I really wish they didn't change, like the green house, I really loved how Kyle made it for himself and how he came to love his roses adn it was something her could share with Lindy. The whole Lindy kidnapping was really under played, she didn't like him at all at the beginning of the book, but in the movie she didn't seem to have a huge problem with him. Over all it was an ok movie. Alex was sweet in it, I loved how awkward he was with Lindy. He did that well.

Yeah. I liked the book better.

  2. I LOVED the book beastly, so much that I finished it in like a day because I couldn't stop reading it. So as I was watching the movie, I was thinking about what made the book awesome, and in comparison, the movie was a huge disappointment.
