Happy Valentine’s Day
Instead of writing a quick Movie Monday, a feature we do here at The Bucket List, I’ve decided to wish you a very happy Valentine’s Day. So, while you cuddle up next to the computer/ laptop (or wherever you’re reading this post), I want to start a discussion about love triangles, the most cliché part of almost any romance or love story (or just about any story nowadays).

I’ve realized that this is a terrible subject to be bringing about on Valentine’s Day. Mostly because, in real life, this is when most people find out that they’ve been participating in a love triangle. (What you’ve never had that happen to you?) Boy sends Girl #1 flowers and Girl #2 chocolate, then Girl #2 gets the flowers that are addressed to Girl #1… conflict ensues. Well, that’s only one of the possible scenarios. So, happy Valentine’s Day: let’s talk about love triangles.

Everyone knows what a love triangle is, right? Three people are usually involved, whether it be two boys and a girl, two girls and a boy, all girls, or even all boys (I could be missing one, but I think that’s it). Two of those people are in love with the same person and that person is usually in love with both of the two. That’s a love triangle, in a nut shell.

Some of the most famous love triangles out there in the YA lit universe, would have to be:
Isabella Swan, Jacob Black, Edward Cullen
Nora is going to hate me after mentioning this series, but this just might be the most famous love triangle in YA history (not to mention the ones that I suggest below). So, here you have Edward Cullen, a vampire (who seems way too old for underage Bella, until she turns 18 in the second book). Then there’s Jacob Black, a werewolf (very ironic, considering that’s all he’ll ever be to Bella: man’s best friend). Well, then there’s Isabella Swan, just a human- loving the attention of two wonderful guys. I think this is the most generic love triangle ever, in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga. This is purely my opinion, so please don’t say nasty things in your comments- I get that enough on Youtube. If you take away the fact that Ed is a vamp and Jake is a dog, then you just have the basics of a love triangle- who will I choose, Drama?
Elena Gilbert, Damon Salvatore, Stefan Salvatore

Want a bit of a twist in the love triangle? They’re brothers this time! And vampires. Right, now, due to Alloy Entertainment, I am very upset with what they are doing to this series. Find out about it HERE. However, I really cannot say who wins in this triangle, because Elena is torn between the two right now in the latest book of L. J. Smith’s The Vampire Diaries series. The next one is coming out in March.
Katniss, Gale, Peeta

I don’t even think that I need to put their last names and everyone will know that it’s Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games trilogy. A lot of people said that this love triangle just ruined the book for them. At times, in the books, it seemed a bit cliché. Really, Peeta and Katniss faking their love for the cameras- they’re going to fall in love, for real, it was no secret. And poor Gale- who would you pick? Bread boy or the best friend (does a puppy dog come to your mind?). It was a very obvious triangle, I admit, but the books were really great.
So, have you read about any great love triangles lately? Happy Valentine’s Day!
