Booking Through Thursday and Third Sentence Thursday

Thursday, February 24, 2011

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Deb over at her wordpress. The meme is an opportunity for book bloggers to answer a weekly question:

All other things being equal–do you prefer used books? Or new books? (The physical speciman, that is, not the title.) Does your preference differentiate between a standard kind of used book, and a pristine, leather-bound copy?

Honestly, I have no preferrence! Being the all animal friendly vegetarian I am, I'm not a real fan of leather bound. But to me, a book is a book. I'm guilty of finding a beat up, cover-handing-by-a-thread book, and bringing it home, taping it up, and adding it to my collection. As long as I can read them, condition is no matter. (Though I do love that feel of being the first ever to crack open the spine...)

Third Sentence Thursday

Hosted by Sniffly Kitty, "Third Sentence Thursday is a weekly meme for beating back the forces of OTHER sentences!"

1) Take the book you are reading now and post the third sentence
2) Review this sentence anyway you want (funny and silly reviews encouraged)
3) Post a link to your sentence here or if you don't have a blog, just post it in the comments!

"His ankles were tangled in a slithering mass of metal, bolted through a ring in the pavement."
-Incarceron by Catherine Fisher, page 5
via Goodreads:

Incarceron is a prison unlike any other: Its inmates live not only in cells, but also in metal forests, dilapidated cities, and unbounded wilderness. The prison has been sealed for centuries, and only one man, legend says, has ever escaped.

Finn, a seventeen-year-old prisoner, can’t remember his childhood and believes he came from Outside Incarceron. He’s going to escape, even though most inmates don’t believe that Outside even exists. And then Finn finds a crystal key and through it, a girl named Claudia.

Claudia claims to live Outside—her father is the Warden of Incarceron and she’s doomed to an arranged marriage. If she helps Finn escape, she will need his help in return. But they don’t realize that there is more to Incarceron than meets the eye. Escape will take their greatest courage and cost far more than they know.

Because Incarceron is alive.
This book looks awesome! A live prison? Never seen this concept before! If you've read Incarceron, whether you liked it or not, let us know! I'd love to hear your take on it!

Happy reading!

I have a book I rescued from a book fair that is falling to pieces, but it is so old I can't tape it up :( It's good to come across another book rescuer though!
