Kickin’ It is a feature at The Bucket List where I round-up the whole month in one post, bringing you reviews you may have missed, other awesome bookish things, and even what I’m currently obsessed with in other media besides books. May went by so fast! And I blinked and now it is full-blown summer with tortuous, sticky weather and thunderstorms that I can never seem to capture on camera. I wasn't entirely sure how this month I would fare, reading wise because The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson took me much longer than expected (see what I did there, it took an unexpected amount of time). However, I ended up tackling 10 considerably long books so yah for awesome weather and reading goals. Here's this month's wrap up:
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas: Having finished A Court of Thorns and Roses in the beginning of the month, I knew I needed to get a hold of the sequel soon. I finished this one last week and I must say that it takes the cake for the best book I have read all year. I am in the middle of putting together a coherent review that is not entirely filled with fangirling--most of my notes are just making heart eyes at Rhysand. A Court of Mist and Fury is everything, absolute perfection.
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas (5 stars): A Court of Thorns and Roses surpassed all of my expectations; the hype is incredibly well-deserved. The story is magnificent and will keep you guessing until the very end.
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (5 stars): Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell is a coming of age tale like no other. It delves deep into a freshman’s journey through the first year of college. Fangirl exemplifies a little bit of everyone. It is a tale that will be sure to brighten your day.
The Glittering Court by Richelle Mead (3 stars): The Glittering Court by Richelle Mead is filled with too much, leaving the book with little point to even carry on in the series. Mead does bring her gorgeous writing which definitely makes this mess of a novel worth reading.
Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh (5/16/17): A retelling of Mulan. Need I say more?
Bang by Barry Lyga (4/18/17): Barry Lyga is one of my favorite authors. Though, I was hesitant about this one. It does not sound like his usual work and I'm excited how the story plays out. At a young age, a boy accidentally kills his baby sister with his father's shotgun. Every day since, Sebastian lives with the guilt of doing so. Sounds interesting and a bit out of my comfort zone but it's from Barry Lyga so it must be amazing!
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell (5/9/17): I wasn't going to read this one. While reading Fangirl, the protagonist writes a fanfiction for her favorite book series, Simon Snow. There are several excerpts in Fangirl and it sounded too much of a rip off of Harry Potter to be a miraculous read. Then the publishers released this beauty in paperback, with a whole new cover and a pull out flap with a map. It is gorgeous and I needed to own it so now I will be reading it.
Reign of Serpents by Eleanor Herman (6/27/17): I am all caught up in this series and ready for this one to release! The fantasy tells the story of Alexander the Great, before he was great. Eleanor Herman uses her experience as a historian to weave actual historical facts into her world of magic and mayhem.
Now I Rise by Kiersten White (6/27/17): A series that I need to start this month so I can read the sequel as soon as it comes out. I am always telling myself I need to read more fantasy and look it, two fantasy reads in a row. I am going into this series a bit blind but I do know there is a princess and some gorgeous world building awaiting me.
I went to see two films this month and they were both amazing. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 released in the beginning of the month and I adored it. Primarily because Baby Groot makes the film 100% more cute than anything I have ever seen in my entire life. I keep Youtube-ing videos of Groot dancing just to get the cuteness quota in for the day.
I also got to see Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. It was a fun, summer movie. However, I still think that the first three Pirates are the best in the series. Dead Men Tell No Tales got to revisit the characters and continue the storyline that we left off in the third one which was interesting. Overall, it was a great movie and reading month!

I totally forgot about Bang! That one sounds so good to me, I haven't read anything by that author yet.
