10 Books to Buy Your Non-Reader Dad for Father's Day

Tuesday, June 13, 2017

Father's Day is coming up! It's on Sunday, and if you haven't gotten a gift for your dad yet, how about getting him a book? He must know you read a lot so why not share the love, even if he doesn't. The following are awesome books that will get even the non-reader into reading non-stop.

In celebration of Father's Day, let me introduce to you my dad. He doesn't read a thing, unless he can help it. He's much more of a hands on type of guy, always moving around, doing something. If he stays still in one place for too long, he will most likely fall asleep. However when I recommend a book to him, he knows he will love it.

Top Ten Tuesday is created and hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week's topic is: 10 Books to Buy Your Non-Reader Dad.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs: I actually got my dad to read this one with the promise that "it has pictures so you'll love it." It does have amazing pictures, in this strange but masterful story that will whisk you away from reality.

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard: I'm so stoked that they are finally making a movie of this. I hope they can do it justice. And why not get your nonreader ready for the movie that will surely blow the box office! Aveyard sets the stage of a young girl who discovers she can become the start of a movement that will rock her world.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo: An impossible heist, an incredible cast of characters, and fabulous world building. This will make all the non-readers come to the yard.

Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane: I'm throwing this pick in there. It's a thriller with some horror aspects. Plus, there is a movie based on it. There are twists, unbelievable characters and a neck-turning story line that will keep you guessing.

Flight by Sherman Alexie: Flight is super short so any nonreader could be done with this in no time. Also, it's a time travel with an intriguing premise.

Divergent by Veronica Roth: This is the book that got my brother into reading. It is fast paced and action packed-- you can't go wrong with it.

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White: Obviously, this is a paranormal/supernatural book. However, it has a protagonist that has such sass that will have you laughing out loud.

Unwind by Neal Shusterman: Here's one of the first dystopian novels I have ever read. Unwind came out before the genre got really popular with The Hunger Games so I think it often gets overlooked. In Unwind, parents are given the choice to unwind their children when they hit a certain age if they have become too rebellious to them. It's an absolute fantastic story!

Kill the Boy Band by Goldy Moldavsky: This is a strange one to explain. It doesn't seem to have a set genre but it's filled with dark humor. I've never read a book quite like it; the book is truly unique.

I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga: Lyga is an amazing author. His writing is superb! In I Hunt Killers, a serial killer is on the loose and who better person to catch a serial killer than a son of a killer. There are tons of twists and detective work that will put Nancy Drew to shame.

  2. Very nice list. My dad isn't much of reader anymore but he used to be into Stephen King and Dean Koontz. I haven't 100% decided what to get my dad - probably a ton of candy because he watches movies all night and likes to snack lol

  3. Great list! :) My dad definitely isn't much of a reader - he says he can't justify spending the time and effort on anything that isn't non-fiction. I just sigh. Lol!

  6. My dad only really reads auto-biographies so I'd probably buy him one of those. If we're going for fiction then you can never go wrong with Stephen King! :D

Love your take on this week's list!
