Top Ten New-To-Me Authors in 2015

Tuesday, December 08, 2015

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created and hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.  This week's topic is: Top Ten New-To-Me Favorite Authors of 2015.  After looking through what I've read this year, I read quite a bit from authors I was already familiar with.  It's always good to branch out and during the summer months, I got reading some of my favorites for the year from new authors, I haven't read before.

Jenny Han: I picked up To All the Boys I've Loved Before during the summer, when everyone seemed to be talking about the sequel, P.S. I Still Love You.  To All the Boys definitely shined through as one of my summer favorites.  I always had this sense that Jenny Han books were going to be laden with over-dramatic so-high-school scenes that I wouldn't be able to stand (like what is with the title: The Summer I Turned Pretty).  Believe me, with To All the Boys, that is definitely not the case.  It is a contemporary romance that is so real-- I wish I could adopt the protagonist's family.

Sara Raasch: The sequel to Snow Like Ashes, Ice Like Fire released this year and having never read the first, I joined in.  Snow Like Ashes was amazing! I can finally understand why it was so hyped when it released.  Sara Raasch has officially become one of those automatic-buy authors.

Julie Murphy: Having not read Side Effects May Vary, I have little to go on by liking her other works.  However, Dumplin' spoke to me.  It was just one of those awesome books that totally understood you.  Julie Murphy gets me.

Gayle Forman: I know, you are extremely surprised.  Gayle Forman is one of the queens of YA, right next to Sarah Dessen (who I haven't read either yet-- next year, maybe).  As much I want to read If I Stay, I'm never in the mood to be upset and I know that book is going to make me cry.  I was inspired after reading Jamie's post on her love for Just One Day.  After getting my hands on it and Just One Year, I devoured them in one week.  Just One Year took the gold for me.  In my opinion, Gayle Forman's crown of YA is well-deserved.

Colleen Houck: My brother used to be obsessed with Houck.  The Tiger Saga, her series filled with talking animals, never drew me in.  However, when I heard about her new book, Reawakened, I knew it was going to be epic.  And it was.

Eleanor Herman: I don't know if it's cheating to pick a YA debut author.  She's written other works, mostly non-fiction and this summer delved into the land of YA.  After reading Legacy of Kings and loving it so much, I bought some of her non-fiction work, but have yet to dive in.

Jodi Picoult: Here's another shocker, right? I don't read a lot of adult fiction, but when I do, I don't read Jodi Picoult.  Right now, we are strictly talking about her Between the Lines and Off the Page, which she wrote with her daughter, Samantha Van Leer.  So good.

Gwenda Bond: I was looking through my piles of books and noticed I have a few books from Gwenda Bond which have never been read.  I can tell you, after reading Lois Lane: Fallout, I will definitely be reading her other works now too.

April Lindner: Long time ago, I purchased Catherine (and still haven't read it) but this summer another book of hers released, Love, Lucy.  I simply cannot walk away from a book cover with a Vespa (and a cute boy) on the front-- it's a weakness.

Adi Alsaid: Adi Alsaid seems to put descriptions in such a way that reminds me a lot of John Green.  And who wouldn't pass up a chance for another John Green? His Never Always Sometimes had a bit of problems but overall, his voice never strayed from being both unique and a bit John Green-familiar.

What new-to-you authors did you adore this year?
