Fallen Book Discussion (Week 5)

Tuesday, May 01, 2012

Hey, people from Earth and other people who are not from here, for the next 6 weeks we will be giving you the awesomeness that is Fallen by Lauren Kate.  Be sure to show up, because we are giving away some great stuff, check it out HERE.  Just a BIG side note, I am changing the structure of these posts from here on out.  Due to life happening: finals week is next week and everyone is going to be going back to their own houses, therefore I am switching up things a bit.  I hope you don't mind.  I will still be asking two questions, but for each chapter now.  Be sure to follow the discussion and don’t be scared to join in on our discussion/ questions.  Those who entered the contest will receive extra entries for answering a question.  Every week on Tuesday, we will discuss two chapters of the book, and ask you two questions for each chapter about what we have all read.  Look for our answers in the comments as well.  If you missed a post and want to check out the schedule, go HERE.  Come and join us in our quest of discussing FALLEN.

Chapter 8: A Dive too Deep

Hope you all enjoyed this chapter because I definitely did.  A quick low down as to what happened before I get to the questions: Luce is very interested in Daniel's family history and Penn ropes her in to finding more about him via his secret school file.  The don't find much in that department.  After Luce feels like a definite stalker, Daniel decides to magically be nice to her, for once.  Shocker, I know.  He wants to go somewhere private (which definitely made me smile) and he brings her to this sort of scenic watering hole.  They go swimming and sun bathing (for what seems like five minutes).  Daniel tells a short life story to her and Luce is just awestruck.  Then Daniel leaves, as usual, and Luce enjoys watching him... leave.  Yeah, totally not a stalker.

What do you think?
What would Luce find in Cam's file?
Who was the girl, Daniel mentions, that "burned" him?

Chapter 9: State of Innocence

Innocent, alright.  It's school time, however, it seems like school hours may go for longer than any of our generic school hours.  (Sun setting during teacher's lectures are a sure sign that this class is awful.)  Miss Sophia brings out her puppets and does a sort of shadow show with them about Lucifer and the huge Fall from Grace.  Molly is passing snarky notes with Luce and Arriane is passing insistent notes to Luce to find more about Daniel's get together the other day with her.  Daniel catches her after class, trying to make small talk when Luce says something that totally has Daniel in rebound mode.  Goodbye, Luce, I'm going to be mad at you for another chapter or so.  *sigh* Boys, they can never truly make up their minds (or in particular, Daniel!  What's it going to be?)  Another chapter that Luce can enjoy watching him... walk away from her.

What do you think?
Did Cam drug the figs that he offered to Luce?
Daniel said Miss Sophia's lecture pertained to his family history, so is he supernatural?  Angel or demon?

  1. Hm...Cam's case...maybe filled with weapons of torture or beautiful rainbows *enter sarcastic tone here*. Honestly, I think Luce would not find anything on him, he is mysterious but cute to Luce, and i think he plans on staying that way. He probably got rid of whatever bad information was in there to keep himself from looking like the creepy dude he is...sorry i just don't like him that much.
As far as the girl who "burned" him, i think it's Luce (i know he says he doesn't know her, but i think he does, way more than he is saying). It's too coincidental that she happens to 'burn' that boy at the party (when the shadows came) and then Daniel is suddenly taking notice of her. He even used 'burned,' so i think it's Luce.
Yea, Cam probably did drug the figs. It's obvious that he likes her, so i wouldn't put anything past him at this point. People do crazy things when they like somebody.
I'm pretty sure Daniel is supernatural because of how much interest he had in Miss Sophia's lecture and since he seems to let on he knew Luce, through his slip ups near her (even though he denies it afterwards). So, Danny boy is supernatural, and now, angel or demon? For Luce, and her perspective, I think he is an angel, especially when she thinks she sees wings coming from him after he dives into the water and swims away. But, i would personally love it if he was a demon. This would make the story so much more interesting and fun if someone Luce knew was a demon in this novel. *crosses fingers hoping Daniel or Cam is a demon*

  2. No, I don't believe Cam drugged the figs.

Yes, Daniel is supernatural, I believe he's closer to angel than demon. But not 100% angel. He's something a little different.

  3. I think that Luce would find a big NADA in Cam's file, leaving her to wonder if he even exists. *dun dun dun*
Luce may have been Danny's 'burner'. She seems to be connected to Danny Boy somehow, maybe a past life that only he seems to remember and he resents her for it. . .
Cam does seem the type to drug fruit, his nickname is Chester the Molester after all.
Daniel is some kind of supernatural being, maybe a fallen angel? He is bipolar enough to have some kind of broken past.

  4. Hey, everyone! It's been a while since I commented on my own post but I just wanted to discuss my opinion on this week's questions too!
    1. I think Luce would find much of the same in Cam's file as she did in Daniel's. It would be even more interesting if they had come from the same orphanage. However, I do have to keep in mind that Cam has come and gone from this school many times so I do wonder what he does to get himself landed there time and time again.
    2. I really love Jackie's answer about it being Luce because she "burned" Trevor. Still, I think Daniel would use that certain action verb so she would stop being so forward with him rather than thinking about ways to hurt her with the "burned" comment. Still, it is definitely Luce he is talking about.
    3. Cam did not drug the figs. He has much greater, more powerful ways to get what he wants: and none of his plans include drugging. He can pull off his charm and she will be in his arms (for a while, at least).
    4. I don't like this question because as a reader of the entire series, I feel that whatever I say here will be a spoiler. Therefore, I'm leaving it blank.

Happy reading, all! Stay tuned for next week's discussion because Fallen is getting even hotter!
