Saturday Snapshot and On My Wishlist (2/5/11)

Saturday, February 05, 2011

Hey everyone! How's the weather treating you? Gina and I got another six inches or so throughout the night.. too bad it wasn't a school night!

Today I thought I'd give you guys and old meme and a new meme, what do you think?

Saturday Snapshot is a weekly meme hosted by Alyce aka At Home With Books. This meme lets bloggers take a momentary lapse in their blog topic of choice (ours obviously being books) to share a photo that you've taken or someone you know, not just your everyday, run-of-the-mill Google Image.

This is a photo of one of my hermit crabs. Currently, I have six and they are little nocturnal beasties! I love how he looks so casual in this picture, but in real life he's a speed demon of a crab.

The new meme I wanted to try this week is hosted by Book Chick City. It's where we can highlight some books we've been anxious to read, but haven't gotten around to it yet. The books can be old releases, new releases, or ten-years-ago releases.

Some of the books on my To Read pile are listed below:

Flying Blind by Deborah Cooke and Drink, Slay, Love by Sarah Beth Durst

Nightshade by Andrea Cremer and Blessed by Cynthia Leitich Smith

Tris & Izzie by Mette Ivie Harrison and Bloodborn by Karen Kincy

  1. I used to have hermit crabs! One I named Big Joe (I was a creative kid) had a big blue shell and was bigger than the rest of them. One day I looked in their little play thing and he was gone! The weirdest part was I kept him on top of a mini bookcase so I had no idea where he could have gone. Three days later my mom was in the living room and heard a clicking noise and got scared, but it turned out to be none other than Big Joe walking across the wood floor. He was quiet the little escape artist and I was excited he had survived so we took some of the sand out of their play thing so he couldn't get out again. The books on your wishlist are some that are on mine too! Drink Slay Love just looks so pretty!

  4. Haha, thanks everyone! Though they do get a bit boring, I love my crabs (haha).

Chelsea: I've never had one escape, yet. But I have mine in a 5 gallon aquarium tank, and I've found them clinging to the wire mesh top, even though there's no possible way they can reach it.. It's crab magic!

Alyce: They're really not that hard to care for at all.. feed them every other day or so, but as long as they have heat, water (salt and regular), and something to dig in (mine have sand, but I've seen tanks with aquarium gravel) and extra shells, they're good!

Sheila: Haha, I can imagine! :P

  9. I have tropical fish but I've never had a hermit crab. He does have kind of a laid back look in that picture.

  10. Hermit crabs are so sweet! I don't know what it is about them, probably their determination to drag that shell with them everywhere they go.
